Two cited for liquor violations during Swedish Days

GENEVA – Two liquor servers were charged with serving beer to underage customers during a police department undercover enforcement during the Swedish Days festival.
Those receiving local ordinance violation tickets were Robert J. Kolecki, 58, of the 300 block of Colonial Circle, Geneva and Theresa E. Burns, 44, of the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue, Geneva.
Both were charged on Thursday, June 25, in the beer gardens of the American Legion Post 75, 22 S. Second St. and River Lane Pub, 65 N. River Lane, according to police reports. Kolecki was serving for the Legion and Therese Burns was serving for River Lane Pub.
Burns is the wife of Mayor Kevin Burns, but the couple are in the process of divorcing, according to court records.
The tickets carry a $100 fine. Legion Commander Dan Clark said Kolecki paid the fine himself. Clark said he is not aware that the Legion has ever been cited for serving underage.
“It is the policy of the American Legion to comply with all policies and laws regarding liquor control,” Clark said.
Kolecki said he would not comment about the violation.
